NABET/CWA – Disney: Give workers a fair contract!
Where: ABC Studio, 1500 Broadway, New York
The members of the five Locals of NABET-CWA in New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., San Francisco and Los Angeles have been working for Disney/ABC for eighteen months without a contract. In New York, the approximately 270 staff and 300 or so free lance NABET-CWA Local 51016 represented employees have suffered devastating rounds of forced buy-outs and lay-offs. Disney has bargained only to the extent that they can not be accused of not bargaining! The company wants to roll back meal benefits, overtime pay, scheduling restrictions, severely limit jurisdiction and close off our fully funded pension plan to new hires. They have offered their “last, best and final offer” after a minimum of bargaining. Disney is destroying good Union middle class jobs with benefits and replacing them with low paid, non-Union temporary jobs without benefits.
We appreciate any help offered for this Thursday, September 27th from 8am to 9am at the TIMES SQUARE abc studio on Broadway between 43rd and 44th Streets. The second hour of Good Morning America features a number of live segments amid the crowd on the pedestrian mall opposite the studios. That is where we want to be with our signs and leaflets. Later the same day, from 11 am until 3pm we will picket and leaflet under the inflatable Union busting rat on Columbus Avenue in front of abc between 66th and 67th Streets.
